KENNY HOOKS
Kenny Hooks' selection as an Ards player for Ireland against New Zealand towards the end of 1989 marked a remarkable reversal of fortune for Kenny in rugby terms. A product of Bangor Grammar School; Kenny was captain of a Schools' Cup winning side. He won his first and, until 1989, only cap some eight years earlier when he played against Scotland while a member of the Queen's University side. Kenny then had the misfortune to be challenging for a place both on the Ulster and Ireland teams against Trevor Ringland. On leaving University, Kenny turned out for his native Bangor. However he switched his allegiance Ards at the beginning of the 1988/89 season, was on the Ards Senior Cup winning side of 1986/87 and captained the club in 1989/90.
